Cooper River Bridge Run 2026
Cooper River Bride Run
The Cooper River Bridge Run is an annual 10-K spanning Mt. Pleasant to downtown Charleston with over 35,000 participants this year alone. The race includes world-class competition alongside a walk/walk-run choice for those less competitive. Founded in 1978 by Dr. Marcus Newberry to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. It has risen over thirty-three ($33) million dollars through this weekend alone. Proceeds support local Lowcountry non-profits through its “Charity Connection” program for such organizations as Lowcountry Food Bank, Pet Helpers, Alzheimer’s Association, and many more.
As a first-timer, being able to take part in this event was an honor. It brings many community businesses together, with some of their biggest sponsors being Harris Teeter, Gatorade, and MUSC. There is a Bridge Run Expo the day leading up to the race, which allows its vendors and sponsors to stand for themselves and offer services and materials related to the bridge run. On the day of the race, many racers line up in order of their completion time. For the actual race, you must verify your completion time with a USATF-associated race to qualify:
· Below 40 minutes
· 40 to 50 minutes
· 50-60 minutes
With the over 60-minute runners/walkers not needing to verify. Throughout the race, there are photographers, paramedics, fire departments, and police departments for the safety and recording of the race. The end of the race loops through Marion Square, where entertainment, vendors, refreshments, and even your very own medal await.
Interested in participating next year? 2027’s Cooper River Bridge Run will take place Saturday, April 3, and is expected to be in the same location. Please visit bridgerun.com for more information.
